Hillfarm #keepitlocal & support Sourced Locally Fortnight
by Lawrence Frohn, May 26, 2016
Every family-run business knows the value of a supportive local community. Here in Suffolk, we’re lucky to have such a lively agricultural scene and some of the most supportive consumers in the UK – which is why we’re so excited to welcome Sourced Locally Fortnight, an initiative that celebrates the importance of ‘keeping it local’.
Run by the East of England Co-op, Sourced Locally Fortnight kicks off this Bank Holiday Monday, the 30th May. By championing locally-produced food and drink across East Anglia, the event will help to raise awareness about why it’s so important to keep it local, for businesses and consumers alike.
Why is it so important to ‘Keep it Local’?
Hillfarm is a family-run business, and we rely on the support of our surrounding community to keep evolving and diversifying as a local producer. Here in Suffolk, an impressive 36% of people bought local produce in the last week – 11% more than the national average – and the benefits of this support are incredibly far reaching. By buying from local businesses, you are:
Bringing additional money into the local economy, instead of large multinational corporations
Helping to create and maintain local employment opportunities
Reducing ‘food miles’ – the distance that food travels from food to plate – which in turn reduces your carbon footprint
Ensuring consumers have access to a wide range of fresh, tasty, seasonal produce
During Sourced Locally Fortnight, our Hillfarm intern Sophie will be touring the following Suffolk stores offering tasters of our produce as a thank you to our supportive customers.
26th May – Manningtree
27th May – Felixstowe
7th June – Combsford
8th June – Hadleigh
9th June – Wickham Market
10th June – Framlingham
If you see our stand, please say hello and help yourself to a sample of our cold-pressed rapeseed oil, mayonnaise and hand cream. If you’d like to buy, Sophie will be running a brilliant 25% discount promotion – so don’t miss out!
Throughout the fortnight, everyone involved in the event will be active on social media – so get in touch and use the hashtag #keepitlocal to show off all of your locally-produced goodies! You can follow us on Twitter @HillfarmOils and give us a like on Facebook.
As always, a huge thank you to all of our local customers for your support!
