All the latest news from the farm and the kitchen

After days and days of preparation, my car was almost able to drive itself to the festival site at Snape Maltings. Not only did we have a stall for our cold pressed rapeseed oil in the main food hall, but we also set up the ‘Hillfarm Family Meadow’ complete with mini-tractors and the world’s biggest combine harvester!
At 6am the morning before the festival, our combine and straw bales arrived, along with our brightly coloured banners and windbreaks ready for the weekend ahead. The sun shone brightly for two wonderful days at the festival, and we loved having the chance to chat with visitors young and old as they browsed our stall and had fun in the meadow. The ride-on tractor was a big hit, and the little ones loved our bee-themed face painting too.
Nic, our driver, was on hand to answer questions as our visitors climbed aboard, including ‘how much does it cost?’ and ‘how fast can it go?’. He was in his element showing off his pride and joy!
Meanwhile at the hand press, the Hillfarm team enjoyed explaining how our rapeseed oil is made. It was great to see some healthy competition as you all had a go at making the oil! The Cook With Me Kids pizza-making was also brilliant – I have never seen so many pizzas of different shapes and sizes, and the toppings looked delicious!
It was great to be surrounded by some of Suffolk’s finest producers throughout the weekend, many of whom we consider good friends. A big thank you to the support we had from local businesses including Cook With Me Kids, Marriage’s Flour, Suffolk Salami and Suffolk Sea Salt. And I think I speak for everyone when I say how grateful we were for Suffolk Meadow’s delicious ice cream – an extra-special treat in the beautiful sunshine!
We all loved chatting about the farm, and were over the moon to win ‘commended’ in the best stand award. The feedback has been overwhelming, and a great bonus after such a fabulous weekend at Aldeburgh Food Festival. Thanks again and we hope to see you all soon!
