It is still all go go go here on the farm. The rapeseed harvest started on 20 July, and the team starting work as soon as the morning dew had dried off and working until as late as 1am to take advantage of the dry weather. Working these long hours they managed to get the whole lot done in 2 weeks.
We brought in 1500 tonnes of rapeseed from 800 acres and have already pressed some of the seed. All the varieties we’ve tested have passed the stringent blind tests we run at Hill Farm and the nutritional tests done by our laboratory confirm the quality of this year’s crop is excellent.
The team are now combining through the night to bring the wheat in; but with only 170 acres left, the finish line is in sight! If the weather is kind to us we’ll be finished very soon. But there’s no rest,we’re already drilling the first rapeseed for next year’s crop so the recent rain has been very welcome and will give the new crop a good start.
